Speaking of dancing. My Mother and Dad met at an early days dance at the old LDS Church. He was a great dancer and told himself the would only dance with the best female dancer he saw on the floor that particular night. My Mother was visiting from Idaha with the Parkers (Russ Parker's wife, Grandma Parker was my Mother's Aunt) and she was a terrific dancer. They thus danced all night together and the rest is history ! ! ! -----"short enough for the two Rudy's in the group????"
Anyway, they taught hundreds of people to dance every type of dance over the years. Our whole family thus loved to dance and whenever I grabbed my sister Linda at the hundreds of dances we attended-----boy could we clear the floor ! ! !
From the dancing and the musical talents of my parents we kids just loved music and out of that I took piano lessons, piano theory (Sister Coombs)1951 -1953. She was a terrific piano player and teacher. Then it was a natural leap to the EID Community Band with my Saxaphone we have all discussed and from there to my first rock and roll band, Gerald's Jazzettes (wow! ! ! flashy red blazers, black pants, narrow, narrow black tyes, 'Peter Gun', 'Tequilla' (songs of the day) and all ! ! !
Then Allen and Verl picked up the rock and roll guitars and we went big time (well for Rosemary at least) ! We played multiple times in the old Brooks Elks Hall, Bassano, Mt. Norquey Lodge in Baniff, opened and closed Waterton Pavilion a couple of times. Later Allen was with a group called 'Rapid Transit' at BYU I took in my GTO to California to record a 45 (remember those we used as frisbies if we didn't like the music) and Verl went on to play with a great band that did all the Crosby, Stils, Nash and Young songs better than the originals.
He left that band to change a direction in his life and took up owning a record shop in Brooks then on to the good old USA and sandy, sandy beaches. I think the lead singer in that group went on to form a big, well known rock band in Canada but Verl can tell you more about that if he chooses.
We all got together last fall and did some harmony with him as he entertained a whole group of his friends at a party overlooking all of downtown San Diego. It was kinda special and he continues to play a mean and excellent guitar to this day. Allen and Tamie have been in a number of country bands over the years but Allen lost his voice and Tamie wanted to be out with the cows more so that all fizzled out but Allen still plays and does 'sing alongs' when we get together as a family------not as often as we would like to these days.
And just to let you know, my Mother's last living brother, in his late 80's, was at his last dance having the time of his life dancing nearly every dance as he so loved to do, sat out one in a chair to recouperate, had a heart attack and died. We all said at least he died doing what he loved to do so much------but I do think there is music in Heaven------wouldn't you guess ! ! !-------what's that country western song????---------"I hope you Dance" ! ! ! !
"and this was probably again toooooooooooooooooooooooooo long for those 2 Rudy's, RIGHT ??????? But love ya anyway ! ! !
